What we offer

MAPA offers a wide variety of classes throughout the week in many different types of dance and performing arts. Here is a brief breakdown of all the classes so you and your child can best choose what they would like to try. Although our classes are by grade, don't worry if your child has never danced before, they will be allocated into the best age appropriate grade for them. Your first class with us is always free, so take a look then come along.

Dance

Ballet

Miss Vanda is a qualified Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Teacher. We offer ballet from Pre-Primary to Advanced. The children regularly take exams in the grades whereby an invigilator comes to the school and they are assessed. They then receive their certificates and grades at our prize giving events. Miss Vanda is also a Practical Teaching Supervisor for the RAD, meaning she approves prospective new teachers for the Academy.

Tap

Miss Ema and Miss Carla are both qualified by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Tap is currently taught from Primary to Advanced. Like ballet and modern the children are given the opportunity to take exams and progress throughout the grades.

Modern

Miss Ema and Miss Carla are both qualified by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Modern is currently taught from Primary to Advanced. Like ballet and tap the children are given the opportunity to take exams and progress throughout the grades.

Performance

Drama

We have Drama for both Juniors and Seniors where the children are given role play tasks, play drama games and both create or learn scenes from scripts. We feel these lessons enable them to explore their creativity as well as improving their confidence and social ability.

LAMDA

LAMDA lessons are available through Miss Nalan and support children's skills in both communication and performance. For a clearer understanding of the benefits please visit www.nalanjolly.co.uk Classes are booked directly with Miss Nalan so for availability and rates please email her at nalan@nalanjolly.co.uk.

Strength & Stability

Body Conditioning

Conditioning is a pilates based class aimed at the students improving their core strength and understanding of their bodies. It enables them to isolate and work on certain muscle groups and to know which muscles are needed during choreography to produce the cleanest and most energy efficient result.  Body Conditioning is compulsory for Grade 3 Ballet pupils.

Contemporary

We are fortunate enough to have Dan Shepherd-Trott teaching at the school, who is one of the few qualified teachers in the country under the newly formed Contemporary Examination Syllabus, superheaded by Ryan Jenkins.  This means that for the first time, as well as free work, we are now able to offer examinations in Contemporary.

Jazz

The school offers two different types of Jazz.  We have classes in ISTD Examination Jazz at Bronze, Silver & Gold level.   We also offer a Free Jazz class where routines are constantly set, allowing the students to work on audition technique and improve their ability to pick up choreography quickly.

Funky Fridays

A new fun and funky dance class offering something different each week ... Street, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Commercial.

Ideal for our lower school children.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre lessons are available for both Junior and Senior students and are taught by Miss Kate and Dan together. The children learn well known pieces from popular musicals.  This allows them to gain an insight into what it is like to be in a real musical where you need to be able to perform choreography, sing and act all at the same time.

Private Singing

Private singing lessons are available through Miss Kate and are aimed at students working on their personal technique and building their repertoire in singing for auditions. Kate can also work on voice and diction delivery. Like LAMDA these are booked through Kate so for availability and rates please contact her directly.
